A tragic accident occurred around 11:00 PM on Friday at a checkpoint on the Kasoa-Winneba Highway, resulting in the death of a policeman. Stephen Nii Quaye, stationed at the Winneba Divisional Police Command, was killed when a KIA truck, whose driver admitted to falling asleep, crashed into him.

The truck, with the registration number GR-6419-N, first hit two vehicles; a trailer (GE-5468-22) and a fuel tanker (GY-2186-13); before running over Officer Quaye and crashing into the checkpoint’s metal barrier.

Three other people were injured in the incident and are currently being treated at Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital. The body of the deceased officer has been taken to the same hospital’s mortuary for autopsy and preservation as investigations continue.
