In a recent interview with DJ Slim on Daybreak Hitz, Ghanaian reggae sensation Ras Kuuku, also known as Kojo Kurankye in music circles, made headlines by voicing his opinion on the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA). The discussion centred on the Female Vocal Performance category, where Ras Kuuku boldly stated that rising star Gyakie deserved the coveted award.

Ras Kuuku emphasized Gyakie’s stellar performance throughout the year, particularly highlighting her collaborations with UK-based rapper JBEE. He questioned why Gyakie, despite her notable achievements, wasn’t recognized in the category.
However, it’s worth noting that Gyakie was not among the nominees in the Female Vocal Performance category. Instead, the nominees included Niiella, Titi Owusu, Adina, Abiana, Lordina The Soprano, and Queendalyn Yurglee, with Queendalyn Yurglee ultimately clinching the award.

The Telecel Ghana Music Awards’ category definition clarifies that the Best Female Vocal Performance is determined by the Academy and Boards, acknowledging the female artist with the most outstanding vocal delivery and performance on any musical presentation released during the review year.
