The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has attained Observer Membership status in European Lotteries (EL), effective from June 17, 2024. This decision was unanimously approved during the EL Industry Days Seminar held in Salzburg, Austria, from June 16 to 19.

Director-General of NLA, Mr. Samuel Awuku, successfully advocated for this status during the EL Public Seminar in Brussels in February 2024, focusing on combating illegal gambling in Ghana. Following an application process including the submission of financial statements and certifications for responsible gaming, NLA met the EL’s criteria for membership.

NLA becomes the second African entity after Morocco to receive Observer Membership, joining Satty Zhuldyz JSC of Kazakhstan and Loterie Nationale Morocco. This status allows NLA and its stakeholders to participate in EL’s training, capacity building, and exchange programs, fostering the development of the lottery industry.

Mr. Awuku expressed gratitude to EL for this opportunity, emphasizing its potential to enhance NLA’s operations and international standing. He credited the NLA team, including the Governing Board and staff, for their dedication in achieving this milestone.

The meeting was attended by World Lottery Association (WLA) officials, including President Ms. Rebeccah Paul and General Secretary Ms. Lynne Roiter.
