Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, the Health Minister, has rejected claims that the government is rushing to complete hospital projects in the Ashanti Region for political reasons. He emphasized that such projects require careful planning and budgeting.

The hospitals are part of the government’s Agenda 111 initiative launched in August 2021. Dr. Okoe Boye stressed that the planning for these facilities began well before 2020, and their completion timing should not be seen as politically motivated, especially in an election year.

During a tour of the region on June 26, he assured that hospitals in Suame and Sewuah would be completed by September. He noted that Ashanti Region will benefit significantly from these projects, which constitute nearly half of the total bed capacity planned under Agenda 111.

President Akufo-Addo initiated Agenda 111 to build and equip 101 district hospitals, 6 regional hospitals, and other healthcare facilities across Ghana. The project aims to enhance healthcare access, bolster infrastructure, and support health professionals with accommodation.

Upon completion, these hospitals will feature modern surgical theatres, specialized wards, and facilities aimed at improving healthcare services nationwide. The government views this initiative as the largest healthcare infrastructure investment since Ghana’s independence.
