The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has initiated an investigation into allegations that a patient from Winneba Trauma Hospital was abandoned in the bush at Gomoa Ojobi, Central Region. The patient, who had two broken legs and developed a mental illness following an accident, had been hospitalized for two months without any family care. She was reportedly transported by the hospital’s ambulance and left in a wheelchair in the bush, where she subsequently died.

Eyewitnesses told UTV they saw the ambulance drop the patient off on the outskirts of the town, assuming her caretakers would retrieve her. However, days later, she was found unresponsive and had passed away.

In response to this disturbing news, the GHS announced it has begun an investigation to verify the details of the incident and ensure appropriate actions are taken in line with public service practices. The GHS has urged the public to remain patient, assuring that any individuals found responsible for this tragic event will face severe consequences according to the Service’s Code of Conduct.
