Ga Mantsɛ Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II has issued a strong call to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to urgently address the persistent sanitation issues plaguing Accra. During a tour of Makola Market on Wednesday, he questioned the effectiveness of past and current initiatives aimed at cleaning the city.

Despite efforts such as Operation Clean Your Frontage and National Sanitation Day, Accra continues to struggle with waste management. Speaking with market queens, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II expressed frustration over the lack of progress and emphasized the need for strict enforcement of sanitation bylaws.

“I wonder why numerous efforts to clean Accra haven’t achieved the desired results. I refuse to stay idle while Accra remains filthy. This is a call to action for all of us to strictly enforce and adhere to sanitation laws,” he declared.

In response, Greater Accra Regional Minister Daniel Titus Glover announced that the Regional Coordinating Council is introducing a new initiative, set to launch in July 2024, in collaboration with Nii Ga and the Asafoatsemei to ensure sustainable cleanliness in Accra.

“We have done this before, but maintaining it has been difficult. This time, we are partnering with Nii Ga and the Asafoatsemei for effective implementation,” Titus Glover stated. Committees and teams are currently preparing for the rollout of this new initiative.
