The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced a three-day voter registration mop-up exercise from August 1 to August 3, 2024. This will take place across all district offices and prison centres to ensure everyone is registered for the December 2024 elections.

In an official letter to the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), the EC explained their goal to maximize voter participation. “This is to inform you that the Commission will conduct a mop-up voter registration exercise at all district offices of the Commission throughout the country,” the letter stated.

The EC also mentioned that the registration will include prison centres. The details of the exercise will be discussed at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting soon.

Previously, in May, the EC extended its 21-day registration by three days to boost voter numbers. This extension, held at the EC’s 268 district offices from May 27 to May 29, is now followed by the upcoming August mop-up registration to allow those who missed the initial period to register.
