The ad hoc committee investigating the leaked tape involving Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has cleared him of any wrongdoing. The committee, led by Abuakwa South MP Samuel Atta Akyea, examined the audio where senior officers discussed removing Dr. Dampare, claiming his strictness could harm the electoral prospects of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and accusing him of arresting officers indiscriminately.

The committee’s report found no evidence to support these claims and stated that the senior officers’ actions threatened Ghana’s democracy. The report highlighted a conspiracy by COP Mensah, Supt. Asare, and Supt. Gyebi to replace the IGP with an NPP loyalist, undermining free and fair elections.

Additionally, the committee found that Supt. Asare and Supt. Gyebi lied during the investigation and referred them to the Privileges Committee for further action.
