The Asuogyaman Constituency is embroiled in controversy as serious accusations surface against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, who is alleged to be orchestrating a voter transfer scheme ahead of the 2024 parliamentary elections.

Assembly members from the Asuogyaman District Assembly have voiced grave concerns about the legitimacy of the voter registration process. During a tense press conference, Zurak Abdul Hamid, Assembly Member for the Senchi electoral area, accused Mr. Nyarko of transporting individuals from adjacent constituencies including North Tongu, South Dayi, Lower Manya Krobo, and Upper Manya Krobo to illegitimately alter the voter registry in Asuogyaman.

Mr. Hamid condemned these actions, stating that they undermine the democratic rights of the local residents and jeopardize the integrity of the election. He warned, “Our democratic system hinges on fair and transparent elections, where every vote reflects the true will of the people. Manipulating the voter registry by busing in outsiders not only upsets this balance but also raises serious ethical and legal concerns.”

In a fierce rebuttal, Felix Bonney, the NDC Deputy Communication Officer for Asuogyaman, vehemently denied these allegations. He countered by accusing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of engaging in such corrupt practices and attempting to blame the NDC for their own misconduct.

The community is left in turmoil as these explosive allegations cast a shadow over the upcoming elections, raising fears of deepening mistrust and potential unrest in Asuogyaman.
